Greetings my fellow Veterans,
Canada has for now put an African Peacekeeping Mission on the Back Burner for now;
I am sure a sigh of relief passed through our troops as this announcement was made. Canada is severely short of manpower as we know.
In the World we have a very low ranking within the most Powerful of Nations, standing 25th behind many countries that one would have thought were not as powerful per capita. Italy, Thailand, France, Germany and Japan to mention but a few. Read this link from the Daily Mail, I am sure you will be astounded.
We may not spend as much on men and equipment as many nations but Canada’s Military are regarded Globally as true Professionals. Having elite personnel manning aging equipment and still getting the JOB done.
I would like at this time to share with you as Veterans an Open Letter to the Legions of the United Kingdom. I am seeking help to have an archaic Law amended. (To say the least) As I have mentioned before the Royal Canadian Legion is self imploding. Due to too many associate (Non Veteran) members who seem to think that traditions are rubbish. From selling TAT on the internet and in expensive mailouts the Vision of WW1 Veterans for a club that would assist Veterans has been tossed out of the proverbial window.
To top that of they have refused to ask the Canadian Government to amend the criminal code from 1920. Where it was made illegal to wear medals that had not been earned. I agree with that premise but in the Commonwealth we make exception for family members to wear the medals of a deceased loved one on Remembrance day. A sad fact in this day of 2017 almost a Hundred years since the founding of the Royal Legion.
My friend and fellow Veteran of both the RN and the RCN Fred Rodgers has been tireless in campaigning to have this law amended only to fall upon deaf ears at Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command.
So as well as the Legions I ask you as Veterans to send an e mail of support, to change this draconian law. To the Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command telling them to Support This issue. Thank You. email@example.com
On that note my rant is over: Here is Fred Rodgers Blog well worth reading back blogs;
