Dedicated Philip Warren has spent 70 years building a fleet of 484 warships – from a million matchsticks.
The master modeller, 87, has hand-built every Royal Navy class of vessel since 1945, using just a rule, razor blade and glue.
He recently completed a 3ft replica of the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier, which took him eight months to complete.
And the widower is not ready to sail into the sunset just yet
Philip, a father of one, said: “There will come a time when my hands are not steady and I get arthritis in my fingers.
“When that time comes I will stop because I want to maintain the standard. I always try to make the next one my best one.”
Each vessel is correct to the tiniest detail and he has crafted miniature planes and helicopters to go with his carrier ships.
