Where do I start? Wow, I’m still reeling after watching the final round of this years MSA Dunlop British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch.
Before we go any further talking about how our Patron and his team got on, we must firstly congratulate Colin Turkington (BMW) for a well deserved 3rd Championship title. It has been a very hard year for Colin but through the difficult times he kept battling to finally take the championship in the second of todays races.
As for our boys, I don’t think they could have finished the season any better. Even while following the practice rounds I had the feeling things were looking up. That was confirmed during qualifying where Dan and Matt finished 2nd and 3rd on the grid respectively.
Race one was a complete dream as Dan and Matt finished first and second with Dan bagging his first BTCC win. It was also the seasons 17th winner, pretty incredible. However, there was a worrying moment when the stewards awarded Dan a 30 second penalty for a start fault. However an appeal was lodged by Team Dynamics which was upheld and Dan’s win was safe. Pheww!!!
So, Race two, Dan and Matt lined up on the front row with Dan carrying 75kg of success ballast and Matt carrying 66kg. Despite the extra weight, the FK8’s performed beautifully and yet again it was a 1,2 for Dan and Matt despite a few hairy moments with Andrew Jordan and Tom Ingram fighting it out in Matt’s exhaust pipe. As we said earlier, this was the race where the championship was decided. Had Tom passed Andrew and Matt it could have gone to the last race however fate intervened, or rather made it bloody impossible for them both to pass. Chalk up a double 1,2.
The final race was not the best for our two lads closing the day outside of the points, however their previous performances saw Honda and Halfords Yuasa both finishing second in Constructors and Team Championships. Matt closed out the season in 9th with Dan right behind in 10th, For his first season that was some going. Dan was also the winner of the Jack Sears Trophy.
The Sandbag Times has been proud to support Matt Neal, Dan Cammish and Team Dynamics throughout the 2018 season and very much look forward to more of the same next year. The team will begin their 2019 campaign back at Brands Hatch on the Indy circuit where we will be joined by some very special guests from a very popular TV show. Keep your eyes peeled on the SBT in the coming months for more information.
