The last remaining Sea Vixen, nicknamed ‘Foxy Lady’ has been involved in an emergency ‘belly’ landing following the Duxford Airshow this weekend.
The incident took place at RNAS Yeovilton following a hydraulic failure. The pilot, who was unharmed in the incident, flew past the tower and requested confirmation of the landing gear. The answer was issued ‘Undercarriage is Clean’ which means the wheels had not deployed. The decision was then taken to attempt a belly landing.
The aircraft was landed safely and the pilot walked away uninjured.
However, it is still unclear, although doubtful if ‘Foxy Lady’ will be flying again at future airshows this year. This will come as a bitter disappointment to the many who were looking forward to seeing this iconic Royal Navy aircraft flying again.
