This week has been a very tragic week with the loss of three Veterans through suicide. Veterans United Against Suicides reported on the passing of two young men, Jamie Davis 4 Scots (Highlanders) and Soldier ‘B’ whose details have been witheld, on the 7th August, while yesterday Derbyshire Police informed us of the discovery of the body of missing veteran, Jonny Cole. We, here at the Sandbag Times now know that 26 Veterans have died this year due to suicide.
Although many questions are rightly being directed to those in power to do more, I cannot help but feel that we all have the power to help prevent more of these tragedies. By raising awareness of where veterans can get help, wherever you are in the country, regardless of the organisation that offers assistance, we may just start a trend where these facilities are accessed by those who desperately need it.
I myself are trying to do this through OP Wamits but you don’t have to use this. Just please help get the message out in whatever way you can. Let’s stop complaining about what is not there and start using what is there. Use social media, use newspapers, use radio, whatever it takes, just get the message out there. If you would like to use WAMITS or you have your own ideas and plans please let us know and we will help and support you in whatever way we can.
So here is my humble plea:
“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
I COME TO YOU ALL ON MY KNEES. I AM BEGGING YOU ALL, PLEASE FIND YOUR LOCAL VETERANS HELP ORGANISATION AND POST IT EVERYWHERE YOU CAN. IF YOU DON’T HAVE ONE OR DO NOT KNOW WHERE THEY ARE, PLEASE, PLEASE ASK US AND WE WILL DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO ENSURE THAT THERE IS SOMETHING AVAILABLE.
PLEASE HELP US TO INFORM THE ARMED FORCES VETERANS OF OUR NATION THAT THEY ARE NOT ALONE, WE ARE STANDING BY THEM AND WE WILL DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO HELP THEM.
THANK YOU & GOD BLESS YOU ALL”
