A US F15 Eagle has crashed into the sea off the Japanese Coast near Okinawa.
The pilot of the jet ejected safely and was recovered shortly after with non life-threatening injuries.
It is understood the jet took off from the US Air Force’s Kadena Base at around 6:40am local time on Sunday but was reported to have come down off the coast shortly after.
It is still unclear what caused the crash, however concerns are being raised on the serviceability of many of the ageing fleet. All F15’s have been grounded until the cause of the accident has been established.
It is understood that the pilot, who remains unnamed, sustained a broken leg during the ejection.
